about this ramen: we always balked at the idea that a vegan 'tonkotsu'-style ramen could come close to matching the decadence of a proper, long-simmered pork bone soup, but this substitute blew our minds when we first tried it.

Absolutely Delicious

I thoroughly enjoyed my Vegan Tonkotsu Ramen, it came packaged beautifully and presented well. The cooking instructions were so simple and tasted absolutely yummy. I even ordered some of the ramen bowls which are a work of art. Next time I am going to try a spicy one now that my tolerances levels are going up.

There were some issues with the delivery operator who accidentally held our order and it arrived too late to be able to eat, but the Matsudai team were so lovely and sent us another order. It was absolutely delicious and completely worth the wait, just as tasty as Matsudai restaurant and fun to make at home! Perfect birthday gift for my partner.

Received Meat instead of Vegan Kits

Two of my kits were chicken, not vegan, so I didn't get to try them (Celeriac Vegan and Vegan Tonkotsu were both missing). My Vegan Miso came with no noodles, so I did use the noods from a meat kit. What I did eat was delicious, but I only got part of what I ordered, so can't give a higher rating.

Creating a good vegan broth seems to have been sacrificed at the alter of being a lookalike, you can really tell your eating warm oak milk.

Arrived late, no response to email

The kit arrived too late (thanks Evri) and had thawed so was not safe to eat. I emailed Matsudai about it, 3 times now, but still no response 2 weeks later. So no noodles and we're out of pocket.

Which is a shame as last time we ordered the noodles arrived on time and were delicious.

Food poisoning, missing items, zero customer service

I ordered ramen for 6 for my partner's 40th birthday party. Two items were missing from the order. About halfway through my bowl I started to feel very unwell and had to miss the entire party and instead spent the night in the bathroom. Thankfully I was the only one who ate that particular ramen and everyone else was fine. I contacted Matsudai three weeks ago and received no reply. I followed up again a week later and again received no reply. Do not buy from this company, you are at risk of food poisoning and there is zero customer service, they do not care! At the very least, I want a refund for the missing items and the item that made me ill!

Extremely disappointing

I ordered the vegan miso ramen as a birthday gift for my girlfriend, and I was extremely disappointed by it. The broth was too salty (yes, miso ramen is meant to be salty, but this was too close to seawater to be enjoyable), the chashu tofu actually tasted quite nice but the texture on the inside was mush, creating an unpleasant contrast with the crispy fried outside, and the noodles were literally the worst noodles I have ever had. They did not separate after cooking, not even with me trying to pry them apart with a pair of chopsticks, and when I did manage to break off a small piece, it was doughy and deeply unpleasant. This purchase was a waste of my money and ruined my girlfriend's birthday meal.

I'm so sorry that you've had a bad experience!
As you say, miso is definitely meant to be deeply umami - but I'm sorry ours isn't to your taste. Our noodles are made in small batches to precise recipes, designed specifically for this ramen, it's unusual that they stick together like you've described but sometimes they do need a swirl in the water as they're cooking. We'll add that to the assembly card! Was your order still chilled when you recieved it from the courier?

Great Kit, Bad Timing

The kit was great, fun to make and nice to enjoy the beautiful ramen in my PJs where I probably wouldn’t be able to get away with in the actual restaurant (understandably).

The bad timing was due to me being terribly ill and not being able to keep down the food, so I couldn’t fully enjoy it. My girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed the kit and said it tasted exactly the same. Lucky her!

Will probably order one again. Shame we can’t order the fried mushrooms and air fry them, they are iconic and I’d eat them all day long if it meant I wouldn’t put on any weight.

Easy to make

It was lovely, but a little expensive for just the one portion, I probably wouldn't buy again and would just come to the restaurant instead as it's a similar price. If it was a bit cheaper or maybe that price for 2 people then we'd probably buy it all the time.

I don’t consider myself vegan, but my son and his partner are so I ordered the three vegan options for us when I went to visit them in London. They were wonderful. Flavour, ease of heating, delivery all great. Only problem is you don’t deliver to Belfast!!

Nicey but pricey

I’m a ramen freak. There I said it, and I do feel better for getting it out.
The flavours were deep and tasty, giving a feel of legitimacy that you struggle to get in this country. My big issue was the portion size for the cost. I don’t mind paying for quality, but you simply just don’t get enough in a portion, and after you add the extras the price is prohibitive. Give us another 25% and you’re spot on.
