matsudai is looking for a general manager to join our matsudai at home team
The General Manager oversees our production numbers and schedule week to week, adapting staffing and ordering to meet demand. They’ll run a clean, organised and systematic production HQ with a welcoming environment and a culture of high standards and efficiency.
Quality of food and service is our priority at Matsudai. The GM will manage key members of staff to deliver incredible ramen and outstanding customer service, taking ultimate responsibility for the implementation of our food safety system and the satisfaction of our customers. The GM will be approachable and practical and use their initiative to implement better ways of working and solve problems as they arise. They’ll help us to plan and make change in the company, bringing their ideas and experience to bear.

We’d love to hear from applicants with experience in e-commerce and food and drink production, as well as project planning and people management in any fast-paced, changeable industry.
The GM will line-manage the Kitchen Manager and Customer Experience and Operations Coordinator, as well as the packing team. The GM reports to the Operations Manager (OM) as well as to the Founder, James. Salary:
£30,000 per annum or pro rata for part-time, plus tips.
The key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Production & Ramen
* Develop an in-depth understanding of our ramen and how we make it
* Adjust production and sales numbers throughout the week, planning and implementing promotions and sales as needed, while keeping the team informed.
* Maintain and update our Shopify store to ensure product listings, stock levels, and imagery are accurate.
* Work with the Head of Food to create ramen ‘assembly cards’ for specials and generate detailed specifications for the packing team. - Your Team
* Schedule the teams’ shifts, working within the labour budget and ensuring production capacity is maximised and workloads are manageable
* Deliver team training and briefings to ensure excellent knowledge of our ramen and processes.
* Motivate your team to meet high standards and work with focus and efficiency.
* Foster a healthy workplace culture of professionalism, ambition, and emotional literacy, making your team feel part of something exciting.
* Manage your team with clarity and fairness, from onboarding to performance management, including fitness to work meetings and 6 monthly reviews.
* Ensure that all staff files are kept up to date with administrative support from the Customer Experience and Ops Coordinator
* Lead recruitment efforts, from advertising roles to interviewing and hiring suitable staff when needed. - Line managing key team members
* Customer Experience & Operations Coordinator – Ensure exceptional customer service, quick issue resolution, and clear communication of customer feedback trends to the team.
* Kitchen Manager – Oversee food quality and safety, kitchen cleanliness, and efficient production planning to meet demand.
* Packing Team – Ensure orders are packed with precision, following accurate specifications and meeting efficiency targets. - Your Venue
* Take responsibility for the implementation of our Health and Safety and Fire Risk assessment measures and ensure all staff are fully trained and understand their responsibilities, generating additional risk assessments as required
* Organise the routine and ad hoc maintenance of equipment and venue
- Development and Change
* Work with the OM and Founder to plan and deliver changes to our model, processes and packaging, helping to innovate and maximise our potential.
* Contribute to the continued development of Matsudai’s offering, taking inspiration from the industry and beyond. - Due Dilligence
* Oversee and enforce daily, weekly and monthly cleaning checklists to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and organisation.
* Work with the Kitchen Manager to uphold our Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) as it relates to the storage, packing and shipping of our kits; this is an iterative process which can require new procedures and training for each new process.
* Work with the OM to train staff in all company procedures and safety protocols related to operations, equipment, and facility management.
* Immediately address or escalate any issues that could impact safety or disrupt smooth operations.
Working week: This is a full-time position but we are happy to discuss offering flexibility where possible.
Renumeration:
Salary: £30k + tips

Annual Leave: 28 days + your birthday
