the role

based at our grangetown restaurant, the restaurant chef is supported by their team and led by the kitchen manager.

you will work under the kitchen manager to prep and serve our food efficiently, exactly to spec, and to food safety standards. you will keep a clean and organised section, and accurate records. we are a small, flexible, collaborative team who rely on each other.

october to march is our busiest period, when you can expect a full, vibrant dining room every night. april to september is our low season, when our focus is collaborations, events, training and consolidating for the coming winter.

what you would be doing

  • prepping and plating top quality food with precision and efficiency. an eye for aesthetics and detail is essential
  • learning what makes incredible ramen, and why
  • understanding and working strictly within our food safety controls
  • carrying out opening, closing and cleaning checklists to keep our kitchen clean and safe
  • giving great handovers and diligent prep lists for colleagues
  • supporting the kitchen manager with inventory management and due diligence
  • contributing towards a collaborative and supportive kitchen with high standards

about you

this role will suit someone who enjoys working as part of a small team, is hard-working, has excellent attention to detail and brings a positive attitude to work each day. you will know how to prioritise and manage your time, your section and your stock. you will need great taste, a willingness to learn all the geeky precision of ramen, and enthusiasm for what we do. some kitchen experience is essential, but attitude and aptitude matter just as much as your cv. you will need to be 18 or older for this role.

essential

  • at least a year of experience in a professional kitchen
  • an organised approach to your work, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work diligently to schedule
  • maturity, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well in a team
  • commitment to your own professional development
  • up to date knowledge of food hygiene standards
  • an interest in ramen

nice to have

  • in-date level 2 food hygiene (we can offer this training)

pay and benefits

  • £12.71 an hour base, plus tronc. over the last six months tronc has averaged £3.67 an hour, so total earnings have started from £16.38
  • a minimum of 35 hours a week, up to 40 october to march. permanent
  • we are open wednesday to saturday, and the kitchen team work a four-day week between tuesday and saturday
  • paid holiday accrued at 12.07% of hours worked, plus an extra day off for your birthday
  • staff meals every shift, free dining on your days off, and a discount on the rest of the bill
  • fully funded training, depending on your skills, experience and needs
