matsudai at home is the hub of our mission to bring incredible ramen, lovingly made in micro batches, to people wherever they are. at our production kitchen and hq in taffs well we make and ship hundreds of ramen kits a week, direct to ramen-lovers all over the uk.

the role

based at our production kitchen in taffs well, we are creating a new role to support the general manager with our operations.

this is a call-out, inviting talented, interested people to get in touch while we are still refining the job description - so there is a real chance to make this job your own. a passion for great food and an ability to cook are essential, and there are some core responsibilities to be fulfilled, but we have learned that having the right people in our team matters far more than a prescriptive outline. we would love to meet our match and play to their strengths.

we are a small, collaborative team. october to march is our busy period, when seasonal team members help us meet demand. april to september is much quieter, and everyone here does a bit of everything - packing, dispatch and cleaning down included.

what the day to day looks like

• careful processing of incoming orders
• cooking, portioning and packaging our ramen
• working in adherence to food hygiene standards
• stocking our japanese pantry, crockery and merch store
• stock checks and inventory management
• updating our website and stock availability
• exceptional customer service and support
• talking about what we do, in mailshots and on socials
• ordering and liaising with suppliers
• picking, packing and dispatching orders
• keeping our space clean, tidy and organised
• solving operational, equipment and staffing issues as they arise

core responsibilities

• support the general manager in organising our time and resources
• set high standards and motivate your team on the warehouse floor
• work with the production chef to cook our ramen exactly to spec

about you

you will have some experience of cooking in a professional kitchen, for service or for food production, and an enthusiasm to learn the precision of ramen. this role will suit someone who is organised, can think systematically, and would like to develop as a manager and team leader. you will enjoy working as part of a small team, be hard-working and flexible, have excellent attention to detail, and bring a positive attitude to work each day.

pay and benefits

• £28,000 to £32,000 a year, depending on experience, plus a share of tips
• 40 hours a week, permanent
• eight-hour shifts within our core production hours: 8am to 8pm monday to saturday october to march, and 8am to 6pm monday to friday april to september
• five days a week october to march, with the option of condensed or lighter hours by agreement during the summer
• 5.6 weeks of paid holiday a year, plus an extra day off for your birthday
• fully funded training, depending on your skills, experience and needs
